Syn-Chek 1203
Chlorinated ester
SYN-CHEK 1203 is a water soluble, chlorinated lubricity and extreme pressure additive.
The right combination of molecular chain length, number of chlorine atoms per molecule, polarity and inverse solubility result in an unusual set of properties advantageous for formulating metalworking lubricants.
Unlike chlorinated fatty acid, SYN-CHEK 1203 does not need to be converted to soap to be water soluble.
It will not react with calcium and magnesium and is, therefore, virtually insensitive to water hardness.
Additionally, it is non-staining to most ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Utility of SYN-CHEK 1203 as a lubricity and EP donor is best demonstrated by performing actual drawing and cutting operations.
SYN-CHEK 1203 was incorporated in a synthetic formula and compared favorably against chlorinated n-paraffin in neat and soluble oil.
Effective at very low chlorine concentration (as shown below) SYN-CHEK 1203 is a suitable alternative technology to the traditional chlorinated paraffins and waxes.
Use concentration of SYN-CHEK 1203 depends on the intended application.
Levels in the concentrate may vary from 5% for light duty machining (dilution 20:1) to 20% for severe drawing and stamping (dilution 1:1).
