Aztec TBPB-50-IC
614-45-9
Aztec TBPB is a 98% pure liquid tert-butyl peroxybenzoate peroxide, also known as "PB" or t - butyl perbenzoate, CAS number 614-45-9.
Aztec TBPB-50-IC is a 50% dispersion of Aztec TPBP on calcium carbonate.
Aztec TBPB is used as a catalyst for crosslinking a variety of synthetic rubbers including EPR, EPDM, EVA, NBR, polychloroprene, PVC, chlorosulfonated polyethylene, SBR, polyurethane and silicone.
Typical dosages range from 0.5 to 5.0 and 1.0 to 10.0 phr for the pure liquid and powder forms respectively, depending on polymer type and filler loadings.
This peroxide provides compounders with moderate scorch safety and faster cures (or lower temperature cures) in peroxide-cured materials.
As a frame of reference, dicumyl peroxide has a 10hr half-life temperature of 116'C: the very fast curing 3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexane (Aztec TMCH) has a 10hr half-life temperature of 94'C.
TBPB essentially falls in the middle as to cure rate.
Do not use TBPB in carbon black loaded formulas: only non-black fillers should be used (a small amount of black can be added as colorant).
Carbon black causes severe scorch and precure.
