Aqua-Thik is a gelling agent that is suitable for aqueous solutions or emulsions with a pH below 7. Very effective for producing gels with a pH as low as 3 to 5, Aqua-Thik is a fine powder that disperses and solubilizes readily on mixing to produce high viscosity gels with excellent stability. The gels produced using Aqua-Thik are suitable for use in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations. While there are many gelling agents suitable for producing alkaline gels, Aqua-Thik is the most suitable gelling agent for acid solutions where a large amount of strong acids are not present. Usually as little as 2 to 3? of Aqua-Thik by weight is sufficient to produce a gel of several hundred thousand cps at pH of 3. Aqua-Thik is a light yellow powder, which at first is dispersible, and then becomes soluble in either cold or hot water. Adding it slowly to a mildly acidic aqueous solution with slow agitation will produce stable viscous to highly viscous solutions in a matter of minutes, depending on the amount of Aqua-Thik added. The gel, when formed, should have an antimicrobial added to prevent growth on storage. |
